Zealandia...the eighth continent
Almost entirely submerged in the southwest Pacific, scientists are saying that it qualifies to be a continent. For our fall collection we traveled to New Zealand, the part above water, to build our collection from Farm to Wear. It is important to us that we ensure ethical and sustainable production is traced back to the growers, so we went to meet them. The majority of this collection is based on superior merino wool fabric from Global Merino who buys all their wool from sheep stations in the central area of the South Island. We were hosted for a night at Glenbrook Station by the owners, Kirsty and Simon Rutherford. They involved us in their daily chores, a cricket game with their sons, a tour of the farm, the wool production process, a home cooked meal, a fascinating discussion about sustainable production and introduced us to the sheep (and one bull).
This collection epitomizes our brand with its clean design, high performance fabric and versatility that can travel from the Routeburn Track, to mountain biking the Huck Yeah track in the Queenstown Mountain Bike Park, up Mt. Cook, to wine tasting in Nelson and dining out in Auckland.
